The melody to this famous Scottish folk song is traditional and was collected in the 1870s by Anne MacLeod. The words are by Sir Harold Boulton and tell the story of the escape of Bonnie Prince Charlie from Uist to the Isle of Skye after his defeat at the Battle of Culloden in 1746.
