Elgar composed this piece in July 1888 as a present for his fiancée Caroline Alice Roberts. He originally called it Liebesgruss (Love’s Greeting) as she was fluent in German. The piece did not really sell until it was given a new title – Salut D’Amour.
It is one of Elgar’s best-known works and this arrangement faithfully recreates the piece in wind band form.
