The oboe concerto in D minor op. 1, now attributed to Alessandro Marcello (1673-1747) is a popular work in the oboe repertoire.
Written in the early 18th century, it is Marcello’s best known composition and was transcribed for harpsichord by Bach (BWV 974).
In the transcription Bach greatly embellished the melodic line of the Adagio middle movement. The majority of oboe soloists incorporate these embellishments in their performances of the concerto and this arrangement includes most of the Bach melodic shapes.
